Lotus Hope Counseling, LLC is founded and operated by a professional counselor with a clear vision to support and aid our clients in their healing journey and transformation into the best version of themselves. Life challenges can occur gradually over time or onset abruptly. Either way, there is hope.   

At Lotus Hope Counseling, I believe that a person can rise above adverse conditions no matter how murky or slimy the waters are. This is done with a therapeutic alliance between the client and the counselor, which an individualized treatment is developed to address each client's unique needs and desires. The counselor will support, aid and guide the client through processing the past, identifying present patterns and taking steps toward long lasting changes while addressing the client’s fears, challenges and worries along the way.   


Crystal  M Schmidt MA, NCC, LPC

Crystal is the owner of Lotus Hope Counseling, LLC. She graduated from Waynesburg University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and again in 2014 with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health. Although, Crystal has worked in the mental health field for over 10 years, She became a Nationally Certified Counselor in 2014 and a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2016.  


Crystal has extensive background working with diverse client populations with both mental health and substance abuse needs in a variety of community and agency settings.  Crystal has experience providing individual, couples and family counseling. She naturally works with an approach that combines both reality and person-focused therapies but also draws from CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing therapies.

Julie Mariner MA, NCC


Julie is a Nationally Certified Counselor who is license-eligible with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and a concentration in addictions. Julie has worked in a helping profession since 2000 where she started her career as a medical assistant. Julie then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and ultimately conferred her Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Waynesburg University. Julie strives to create an environment that is safe and comfortable where her clients feel as if they are being heard and valued with no fear of judgment. In addition, Julie fosters the development of a trusting relationship. Julie always had a desire to help others and believe that every individual has the ability to become the best version of themselves. Life is a journey, and we are all on our own path. There is no instruction book and multiple ways to find a solution to a problem—just keep moving forward! Julie works with individuals using a holistic approach to mind, body and soul by allowing clients to attain balance and overcome everyday obstacles while meeting the individuals needs. Julie utilizes different approaches to psychotherapy by incorporating various mind-body interventions including: mindfulness skills, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution focused brief therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. Julie believes that each and every individual can benefit from increasing self-awareness, focusing on one’s strengths, and the development of effective communication skills. In her free time she enjoys spending time with my family and friends; getting outside; and exercise such as: spinning, HIIT, yoga, Barre, and strength training. Julie believes that it is imperative to pay attention to one’s basic needs such as adequate sleep, proper diet/nutrition, exercise and self- care to achieve living your best life.
